Updating google voice on new phone

I used to be able to choose Google voice within my phone app instead of "your carrier", and I could access my voicemail through the phone. I'm running 7.1.2, on a fresh install with all newly installed apps. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk I was wondering if anyone else would ever notice.

It’s been five years since the app was updated with new features and on Monday, Google started pushing the update on all platforms — Android, i OS and the web.

“When we first introduced Google Voice our goal was to create ‘one number for life’ — a phone number that’s tied to you, rather than a single device or location.

It's been this way ever since they updated to Google Voice to v5.x, and has been the same on any of the devices I've used. It's been this way ever since they updated to Google Voice to v5.x, and has been the same on any of the devices I've used.

Google has pretty much left Voice to sit and collect dust, neglecting it like it doesn’t exist.

What these new features entail remains unclear, but here’s hoping the wait is worth it.Obviously, Google is trying to be clever without being specific. The fact that there are no details leaves us to speculate about what will be new about the service. If you currently use Hangouts for your Google Voice communication, there’s no need to change to the new apps, but you might want to try them out as we continue to bring new improvements. At the moment, the switch comes with one notable downside. While notable, Monday’s update of Google Voice was basically just a Material redesign that lacked any new major functionality.
